Water for People

by Peggy on July 15th, 2008

water-orange-drop.jpgMost of you reading this have a good supply of clean drinking water. Yes, we complain about traces of prescription drugs or other small contaminants, but what we have others are dying for.

According to the international nonprofit Water for People, nearly 6,000 people die each day from water-related illnesses. Most of them are children. Around the planet, some 1.1 billion people don’t have access to clean and safe drinking water.

Water for People has a simple water challenge for you:

For two weeks, drink only water. Contribute the money you could have spent at your coffee hangout or the soda machine to Water for People. It’s called the H20 Challenge.

Water for People works to help developing countries implement sustainable water resources and sanitation facilities. They also deliver health and hygiene education programs. Learn more.

Thank you so much for the support and efforts to get the message out about sustainable safe drinking water and sanitation in developing countries! I hope to hear about the experiences that readers of this blog have with the challenge. (Please feel free to tell your story at http://www.waterforpeople.org/write as well to be included in the Water For People blog! (www.waterforpeople.org/blog)) I did want to point out that the Donate page on the H20 Challenge has a subtle error in the donation link (which I’ve emailed them about, so I’m sure it’ll be fixed soon), and the correct link to use is http://www.waterforpeople.org/donate. Good luck with the challenge! And thanks again.

Thanks for visiting Eileen. I hope some of our readers decide to participate.

The link you included in your comment is saying “Page not Found,” but I believe readers can access the donation through the website. I could get to it.
