What a waste of money lol…panty hose will do the same…

Or sticking the sliver on the back of a new bar.

or popping it into a squeeze bottle.

Or tossing it in your next batch of detergent.

I wonder if the saving of soap will offset the energy used to make this contraption.

I’m with Julie on this one — why not just stick the very last of the old bar onto the new one? Just make sure there’s no hair stuck to it first. That’s gross. : )

I agree with all of you - however, here’s the deal, and the reason this is cool. Not all people are as clever as you all. Two, not all people will hang panty hose with soap in it in their bath. Three, it might be a step in a greener direction for non DIY families.

You have to consider that not all families will try DIY methods. If a family would try this though, it’s better than nothing.

I can see that, Jennifer. I guess if a richer non-green person saw this at Sharper Image or some place like that, they’d be more apt to try ‘green.’

It still bugs me, though. If everyone thought like we did, there wouldn’t be a problem to solve with the enviroment. Hey, we should hire ourselves out to teach the rich to be eco-friendly. There’s a market for that…others cash in, why not us?

Jennifer, it’s fun to disagree with you, so here goes.

That is still DIY. It’s just assisted DIY that makes people think they have to buy something in order to be green. Plus, that thing looks like it would fall off the shower wall. I hate suction cups. They always fall. Most people would get frustrated with it and throw it away.

Furthermore, it looks like a condom (especially some photos on treehugger with the soap)! Why not use pantyhose you can take down more easily and not have a plastic contraption to leave up all the time or store?

Ha ha a soap condom. Funny. I don’t know. I more agree with you all. I’m torn. I hate suction cups too. I don’t think I’ve ever seen one work well. I wouldn’t use pantyhose - mainly because I have none. I also wouldn’t use this though. I’d make some liquid soap.

@Peggy, it’s too late for guilt. I’ve been crying in my pillow all day. ;)

    Condom.

    OMG.

Hey, there’s a post! Can you find some eco-friendly condoms? I’m dead serious. I wrote about cleaning sex toys for BellaOnline, so I know you can get away with green condoms.

No silly comments, I KNOW there are Green ones, even the glow in the dark ones look green. :-P But in all honesty, you see these things laying all over the place and they just do not degrade. Millions are made and used so there has to be a better way. Other than not using them (which I don’t, hence the upcoming 5th kid), but that isn’t safe.

Now I am on a misson to find some to tell you about.

With condoms, it’s important to not flush them. But, even if you can’t find the perfect green condom that biodegrades and is effective, it’s still better to use the non-green option than make a lasting impact.

Here are some brands you might want to check out:
Glyde latex and Condomi (sold in Britain and biodegradable). Both are vegan, but I think folks are still arguing on whether Glyde biodegrades. I got these suggestions from Big Green Purse which has a short section on birth control.
