Tip on Finding Organic Olive Oil for Cheap

Olive oil is so yummy, of course you want organic olive oil. It’s even better.
I’ve noticed that organic olive oil in many stores can get pricey, but I was happy to see Whole Foods offering a 33.8 fl oz bottle of organic olive oil for only $9.99. It’s part of their 365 Organic Everyday Value. It was on sale, but the regular price isn’t much more than $9.99 anyway.
Whole Foods also offers coffee, tea, flour and several more products in their 365 Organic line. Too bad I don’t live closer to them, but I go when I can.

I think near us, Safeway Organics olive oil’s cheaper … but both WF and Safeway are cheaper than Trader Joe’s. Fats are important to me as are dairy, meat, and the top 10-20 pesticide-rich fruits and veggies….
Organic olive oil is expensive. It’s so lame. I do what you do, get the store brand organic. Like Wild Oats had a good inexpensive brand, and some co-op’s offer local varieties cheaper.
Spanish Olive Oil is usually cheaper then Italian and still tastes great. My Whole Foods also sells Olive Oil in bulk which is cheaper than generic.

I can’t remember if I’ve tried Spanish olive oil. I think I usually get Italian. I’ll look for the Spanish. I used to buy olive oil in bulk, but since I moved to an apartment my space is much more limited. I may do it again if I can find the room.

I actually got this at Wild Oats, but they are owned by Whole Foods, or something like that. They sell the same stuff anyway : )
Costco! They have a great price. And I love their selection of other organic and natural foods.
Rachel, thanks. I’m not a member, but it’s nice to know they offer organic foods. I’ll have to check it out.
Why is it that all the organic olive oils I’ve found are extra virgin? I dislike the fruity flavor of extra virgin olive oil, and it doesn’t heat up well. It’s one of the last few conventional hold-outs for us since we went organic with our food. I wrestle with this every time I run out of olive oil, and I end up buying a medium bottle of conventional olive oil, hoping I’ll get a chance to research it before the next time.
Katherine, I’m not sure either, but I also have some non-organic light olive oil. It’s better for some cooking applications.
Light olive oil is extra filtered, so maybe that’s why it’s not organic, since it’s more processed. I’m puzzled as well. Extra virgin is considered a higher grade too.
