Promoting youth nature appreciation

Kids aren’t simply born loving nature. You’ve got to help them to develop an appreciation for nature, so in turn they want to protect this planet. Good ways to do this include:
Hold a family hiking day once a month.
Encourage more outdoor minded field trips at your child’s school.
Plan games and activities that encourage outdoor time such as bird watching, rock collecting, plant identification, nature scavenger hunts, and more.
Get involved in your local community garden, or if you have the means, planting a garden at home.

What to do when your kids hate being outside

Today was a no school day here in WA. Being unschoolers, Cedar and I usually go for a long walk each day, rain or shine. More rain usually – we are in WA. Today he asked if his two schooled friends could go, being that they were home. I said sure, we went and picked them up. They were reluctant because they wanted to stay at home and play video games, but we talked them into it.
So, 20 mins into our walk his friends start whining. Massive whining:
