Stats from the project website:

Learner Level: Beginner; Intermediate
Target Grade/Age Level: High School (Ages 15-18). Can be modified for many age/grade levels
Learning Objective(s): Plan and build an ecobottle (or eco-column) out of five 2-liter bottles that will include an aquatic section, a decomposition section, and a terrestrial section. Observe the ecobottle for 4 to 6 weeks and record their hypotheses, observations and analysis in their science notebooks.
Like I said, in-depth. Also, you’ll need a bunch of supplies, but from what I see, you won’t need anything that’s too tough to come by. This would make a perfect eco-homeschool project, or just something cool you could try on weekends.

Then my pal Julie, who by the way, has a great blog for families – Family Resource, left me a link about how to make your own solar mason jar light.

Now, I’ve seen stuff about making solar lights, but this is by far the best link ever. Easy instructions and great go-along photos. This project is perfect for you and the kiddos.
