It’s been a while since I’ve done any sort of link love post around here. Too bad, because there’s been some cool green family news lately. Here’s a recap of some issues and topics that green families can use.

Origami stars via Zen Crafting

Make homemade origami stars with the kiddos – I recently posted about some hyper cool eco-friendly origami stars elsewhere, but the downside was the price tag. With this tutorial you can make your own for much less. You could even switch out the paper for a recycled brand.

eco umbrellas – green and fashionable – actually, I didn’t think an eco-umbrella was possible because of all the materials. However, it is, and if you live in a rainy area or ever come visit Oregon, I’d bring one. If you move to Oregon don’t bring one though – umbrellas pretty much divide the natives from the tourists here.

First of all I’ve got some of my own green links to share. I like having a bunch of green blogs, but the downside is that when I’m posting at another green blog, I’m always thinking, hmmm, I bet my Tree Hugging readers would like this post too.

Green Links to Love: You Make My Day Award

Marye at Kettle and Cup gave me a You Make My Day Award. She gave Jennifer one too, so we’re spreading the love! Here are five green blogs that Make My Day.

•Brave New Leaf has a post up about how cows are doing their part naturally. I don’t know her name, but she always has great posts. (Read more about the cow project at Portland General Electric.)

•Cindy W over at Organic Picks is talking trash. Wait, she’s doing a Trash talk. Anyway, she has cool (not trashy) posts.

•Fellow b5media blogger Hilary at eco friendly driver gives you a nudge to hurry up with adding solar and wind if you want a tax credit in the US. Thanks Hilary! I can count on you for all things cars and beyond.

Green Link Love for the Week

What am I reading – and what should you be reading? Well…

25 Alternative Energy Strategies from a green blog I was just introduced to, Wise Living Journal. Very homestead related, which I adore.

Hilary over at Eco Friendly Driver is in a mood this week (that’s ok, so am I). She’s got some cool rants about why people can’t just work together to get one flippin’ safety bill passed and all the whining GM is doing lately about the Volt auto.

Keetsa has the scoop on eco-friendly buses.

If Valentine’s day leftovers have you asking,”How can I reuse or recycle chalky candy hearts?” Well, How Can I Recycle This? knows the answer.

The Not Quite Crunchy Parent has a great list of item names you may see in cosmetics and body care products and what they mean. Good if you’d like to have cleaner, greener, personal care.

And last but not least, Eco Child’s Play has an outstanding looking book that all green (and somewhat hippie) mamas need for their kids.

Green Around the Net

At 1 a.m. this fine morning I’m munching on animal crackers*, trying to keep the cat off of my keyboard and sipping hot tea. That’s when I decided I’d share some green links with you. They are too good to keep to myself.

*Our restaurant server tonight thought it would be cute to give everyone animal crackers because they had no birthday cake at the famous BBQ joint. No, it’s not my birthday. It’s a friend’s birthday, and he chose the BBQ joint. And his plastic knife broke, thereby flinging baked beans all over his pants. See the evil that is plastic utensils?

At Organic picks, I loved Cindy C’s post about Pottery Barn: A Green Room? I also have conflicting feelings about this company that sends me 200-page catalogs and makes it difficult to get off the mailing list. (Catalog Choice is supposed to be taking care of that for me right now.)
