I tried to pick posts that can help you live every single day greener. Earth Day is fine and dandy, and I’m pleased that so many celebrate on this one day, but it’s not enough.
I tried to pick posts that can help you live every single day greener. Earth Day is fine and dandy, and I’m pleased that so many celebrate on this one day, but it’s not enough. Use these posts to get into a mind set that every day is Earth Day. We can’t save the world in one day, that’s impossible.

From the emails I get telling me that I’m nuts for even considering the dangers of global warming and bleach it’s easy to get frustrated. It can make it seem like we’re actually doing minus what we should be doing. We’re not just up against hard topics, we’re up against hard topics and all the people who one, don’t care, or two, don’t believe we’re facing hard topics.

The posts below are easy takes on the every day issue of living greener. Easy for anyone to try, easy to take, and maybe they’ll lead to more and more green steps in your every day world.

Here’s what I found:

First up, if you haven’t heard, TIME has gone green with the current issue waging war on global warming – I need to pick this up, to see what they have to say beyond their website. However, what I can tell you is that they have an absolutely stunning photo essay on trees in the issue. It’s a must see.

The 20 Most Earth-ish T-shirts on the Web – this post rocks

Try slowing down – it’s not always a great idea to live in the fast lane

Living almost off the grid

Make your own solar water heater!

Natural nail polish remover – something I’ve been looking for forever – nail polish, not so eco-friendly, and I still like it, this will help.

Books to teach kids about the environment

The freedom of frugality – with a nice calm, family/green slant

Get your own lead paint tester for toys

Seriously take the time today to consider what you can do as a family this year to save the planet. The people who don’t believe we’re doing harm, who don’t think we cause major pains to the planet with our thoughtless actions, they’re wrong. I wish they were right, I wish we could just live any old way and be just fine, but deep down we know they’re wrong.

All of you reading this, the people thinking about what they can do, the individuals who are taking small steps every day just may be what saves the earth and the health of all of us who live here.

The Earth Day Groceries Project is a great way to get kids involved in spreading the word about Earth Day.
How it works:

Gather up some kiddos – the more the better. Many schools participate each year from elementary to middle schools, but homeschoolers, church groups, day care centers, 4H clubs, girl scouts, playgroups or neighborhoods could as well. Basically, if you have a pack of kids, you’re good to go.
Head to your local grocery store and ask the store manager for enough paper bags so that each child gets one.

Kids decorate the bags with Earth Day messages about reuse, wildlife, energy conservation, and more. I think a bag that says, “Please recycle/reuse me” is a good idea.

Return the bags to the store on or before Earth Day (April 22). Customers get a great surprise and a lesson in earth-friendly living from kids, when the store packs their groceries in these custom bags on Earth Day.

Log onto the project website and leave a report on the short report form, so that your bag count can be counted. If you’re a school, you’re entered to win a prize package.

What you get (besides a nice happy warm feeling):

“You can download a Certificate of Participation after registering your report. Your groups’ report and photos will be featured on the site, and your bags will be added to this year’s national tally. If you contact your local media, you may get some press coverage too. And don’t forget the reward of being part of an international effort to promote environmental awareness!”

This cost-free environmental awareness project started in 1994 and that first year more than 10,000 kids participated. How many kids do you think will participate this year? Will you be one of them?
