So, this gift is sooooo last minute, that you might not get it in time for Father’s Day, but I bet you money, he’ll love it anyhow. Late or not. You do have to give me a small break. I didn’t meet my own dad until about three years ago – this Father’s Day deal is pretty new (and a little awkward to me).

The gift idea:

Recycled Vinyl Art!

Now, I’ve discussed said vinyl art created by Daniel Edlen here before. Well twice actually. Please see:

Recycled Vinyl Art and Win Vinyl Art for specific information about these cool recycled projects.

While you can’t win any right now, I’m posting again about this art because one, I think it would make a wonderful gift for a dad who likes music, and two, Daniel is a cool kid. He recently emailed me about a special deal he has going on.

The deal was to celebrate his 100th blog post. (I’m a little late – again I get a break, right?) In any case, Daniel says, “To keep costs down, as well as give the customer more choice, I’m selling them also unframed, with a clear coat to protect them, for $100 shipped. That way, people can frame them as they’d like, or simply hang’em with a nail through the hole.”

This is a super deal on original and cool recycled art. Just in case you forgot how cool these are, here are some recent additions that your pop might enjoy:

Bono

Billie Holiday

John Lee Hooker

I’m not sure if there’s a limit on who you can get painted for this nice $100 deal, but you can ask questions about this at the 100th post. I think you can get whoever, but don’t quote me on it. Maybe Daniel will come by and let us know. Even if you don’t go with the new deal, any of the albums in Daniel’s gallery would make a fine gift for dad. There are plenty of choices that span from rap, to country, to rock, to my fave, hippie folk.

Some of you may know that I write a music blog here at b5media. If you don’t the 411 is that I’m fairly obsessed with vinyl. Don’t like CDs as much. Not nearly. That said I get emails from cool people who have cool vinyl stuff themselves. Which I love hearing about.

Recently I got an email about some very nice vinyl art that I’ll be talking about at the music blog but I also thought would be very cool to show here.

Daniel Edlen is the artist behind Vinyl Art, a really neat site that showcases Daniel’s portraits of musicians. The difference here is that he paints them on worn vinyl. This is such a great idea because although there are things you can do with worn vinyl often people just toss them. You know how much waste the used records of the past creates. A great big heaping pile I’m sure. This is one way to decorate your home with creative recycled art.

Take a look at two of my favorites.

First, my King… who is not Elvis.

The next one is amazing…

I really love the John Lennon piece.

He’s created many, many more. There are pieces at the online gallery of Santana, R.E.M, Billie Holiday, and more.

This is one good way to green your lifestyle without compromising an artistic home decorating style — buy recycled art. Many artists are out there using recycled or greener materials now and it just makes less sense to invest in brand new material art.

Visit Vinyl Art to see and learn more.

Is there an artist who works in recyclables that you adore? Let me and other readers know about them in the comments!
