Blog Action Day 2009 – Talk About Climate Change
Each year on October 15th, bloggers all over the world join together to discuss one agreed upon and important topic facing the world. In 2007 we blogged about the environment. In 2008 we discussed poverty. This year, Blog Action Day is asking bloggers to tackle climate change.
Blog Action Day is the brainchild of Collis Ta’eed, and the first year he managed to recruit 20,000 bloggers to all write on the same topic on the same day. It was an amazing event. This year it should be even bigger and better, and it’s always fun to see what various bloggers have …read more
World Environment Day 2008
World Environment Day is coming up soon – June 5th. This year’s slogan is “Kick the Habit! Towards a Low Carbon Economy.”
The goal behind this year’s slogan:
“Recognizing that climate change is becoming the defining issue of our era, UNEP is asking countries, companies and communities to focus on greenhouse gas emissions and how to reduce them. The World Environment Day will highlight resources and initiatives that promote low carbon economies and life-styles, such as improved energy efficiency, alternative energy sources, forest conservation and eco-friendly consumption.”
World Environment Day started back in 1972, but not as many people seem to …read more
Weekly Green News Just for You…
April 20, 2008 by Jennifer
Sometimes I like a little rhyming title with my news
Here’s what’s cool and new in green topics around the web this week. Oh, and a totally random picture I like. We can all use a little rural farm field now and then.
Why You Should Wait Until 2010 to Buy a New Car – from Greensense. Just a note, Greensense is a little funky in how they’re set up, it’s not totally user friendly, and I’m not sure why the writers refuse to hit enter, but this new car post is a good read. Just didn’t want you …read more
And without much fuss, it’s World Health Day…
You know, I spaced World Health Day (which falls on April 7th) this year until the last minute. I used to write on lots of health topics and followed WHO obsessively. Sadly, not this year. The theme of World Health Day this year is, “Protecting health from climate change.”
Obviously this would be a great topic to cover. However, we have a really full day planned here at Tree Hugging Family, I’m tired, it’s late, and I don’t think I’ll be writing a whole post about it at this blog. I did however write a post about this elsewhere. It’s got …read more

Green News for Tree Hugging Families
October 25, 2007 by Jennifer
Sorry I’ve been MIA. It’s been one of those weeks. I do have some quickie news flashes of note.
Be a non-consumer:
In re-news (as in each year it comes around) Buy Nothing Day is quickly approaching. This year it falls on November 23rd in North America and on the 24th internationally. For those of you new to the concept Buy Nothing Day is brain child of one of my faves Adbusters. At least it has been for as long as I can remember — not sure if the original idea was theirs or not (I’ll look into it). Buy …read more
