New green health care facility opens in North America
October 8, 2008 by Jennifer
Kaiser Permanente’s new Modesto Medical Center opened last week, as one of the greenest facilities in America. This is an interesting development, and hopefully, more medical and other public-minded facilities will follow suit. Since opening, the hospital has received national recognition from environmental advocates as one of the “greenest” health care facilities in North America. This is Kaiser Permanente’s first hospital to be registered under the Green Guide for Health Care.
Some of the Modesto Medical Center’s earth-friendly features include:
Use of natural light, with large windows incorporated into hallways, patient rooms, and the main entrance.
The hospital will be fully wired with …read more

Tree Hugging Family’s Final Blogtoberfest Winner!
October 21, 2007 by Jennifer
Cedar is out and about so I did the final drawing — don’t worry though. With me I’m too scared silly of krama to cheat. I was that kid who never ever stole and barely lied. Once when I was nine I took a piece of my sister’s Halloween candy and I felt bad for seriously the rest of the year. Not that I don’t have other faults but screwing with karma doesn’t happen to be one of them.
I think that fewer people than average entered for this prize which means your chances of winning went up considerably. Thanks to …read more
The Amazing Human Clock
October 19, 2007 by Jennifer
This really has nothing to do with tree hugging of any sort but it’s way too cool not to show everywhere so I figured I’d do my part to spread it around. If we have to make this sustainable I’d say save a clock (lots of parts to recycle) and instead use the human clock on your computer.
The Human Clock project is the brain child of one fella, Craig D. Giffen, from my hometown (Portland, OR) who decided to create a human clock using photos. It’s easier to show than explain.
In Craig’s words from his site:
“Humanclock.com shows a photograph of …read more
The Second Tree Hugging Family Blogtoberfest Winner!
October 19, 2007 by Jennifer
Cedar wanted to help out on this one. The photos are a tad fuzzy — since my camera broke I’ve been using my camera phone. It’s ok; although I need to just go buy a new phone. I can’t get motivated.
We had a long day and he’s tired thus kooky so…
Kooky Cedar tries to make the pumpkin look like his head…
Then he decides to draw the name upside down.
Pondering… the slip of paper.
And the winner is….
The First Tree Hugging Family Blogtoberfest Winner!
October 14, 2007 by Jennifer
Tree hugging families came out to play big-time this round! We had ten great comments from ten individuals. Normally my son likes to draw names for contests I have at various blogs so that I can post his picture with the winning name. Sadly he’s out and about with family today so he’ll have to draw the next winner.
Today you get me. I will not however post my picture because I’m no where near as cute as my son.
I randomly drew from our ten entries and the winner is….
Homemom3!!!
Thanks to Busy Body Books, Tree Hugging Family will be awarding Homemom3 …read more
