Last night I was watching TV and saw that stupid Dixie commercial, the one with all the happy mamas. The one that notes you suck if real dishes come before your kids. I HATE this commercial. I was thinking that I’d have to wait around with my VCR to get this commercial on tape; but on a whim I checked YouTube, and apparently someone else felt the same way, because they posted it, with much the same feelings I have.

Honestly, this whole campaign is the most lame sales tactic that I’ve seen in a while. Playing on parent’s emotions to get them to use disposables. Seriously now. Maybe Dixie would like to comment on just how we are caring for our kids, or teaching them anything about the environment by saying “Use disposable paper plates.” Even if you can recycle some of the products, how much energy goes into making them, and what about the packaging? And when you get right down to it, it’s teaching our kids a really poor lesson in being a consumer toss and go society. Lame all around. Why not do the dishes together?

<divalign=center> </divalign=center>

From the Dixie website:

“For Moms, great days include those extra-special surprises—little moments squeezed into the everyday circus of life. Sometimes it’s a walk in the park. Or an extra story at bedtime. And with products from Dixie, and help from our new Website, it’s easy to find them… It’s our mission to make your day a little easier, giving you more time to focus on what’s really important.”

Ah.. so heartwarming. I’m sure that those ten minutes we save by not filling the dishwasher is worth all that waste we’re leaving the next generation. Way to go Dixie.

So, in the last poll, people voted to see both more homemade beauty and more anti-tree huggers. Bet you didn’t think I could combine both and double the happiness factor – did you?
Turns out, I’m just that clever.

Here you go… Homemade Bacon Soap.
It’s beauty, it’s an eco baddie (lye and bacon), and it’s likely the worst soap you’ll ever smell, but hey I do what I can.

Technically not a disgruntled reader, because I seriously doubt this person reads Tree Hugging Family.

I usually only showcase green blogs but I decided this time to go with something else. Mainly, because at least a couple of people voted on our poll that they’d like to see more info on “Anti-Tree Huggers” – and this person may qualify. (Read may).

The Mad Ape left us this comment (twice):

“So I see that you think that I am angry. And your point being? Fact is that Earth Day, Earth Hour, Save the – (just so happens to be Earth right now) These are all scams, con jobs. The Earth was, is, and always will be fine. It does not need your saving. Read my blog entry on this matter: Now may I suggest that you get off the soapbox and concentrate on things of more importance such as speed painting with fries and ketchup! The Mad Ape.

The Mad Ape left this comment on both my Earth Day post and the post where I previously commented on his post about Earth Hour; my kick off Earth Day month post, so I suppose you might say The Mad Ape kicked Earth Day off and ended it with us here at Tree Hugging Family (ironic). I didn’t ok the comment, not because I hate his comment, more because I felt it deserved it’s own post.

First off I don’t think The Mad Ape qualifies as a complete non tree-hugger not with posts like this at their blog “Run you car on water.” Also, the blog has this whole against the man deal going on, which is a good first step toward change in my opinion.

Secondly, I was a little shocked that this person seems so angry, since I not only agreed with said Mad Ape’s post about Earth Hour being a band aid (and not very useful) deal, but also have posted here over and over that I’m skeptical of Earth Day as a whole. The whole too little deal. However, maybe The Mad Ape was simply mad since I said they seemed angry. If you go read The Mad Ape’s blog, you’ll actually see that I’m not wrong, clearly it is an angry place.

Come on it is; with posts like:

Dear Facebook. I hate your guts!

In Celebration of Earth Day – Celebrate Human Arrogance

It’s angry. No doubt about it. Is there a problem with anger – no. Anger gets stuff accomplished you just need to back it up. You have to have an idea in the anger, and both of Mad Ape’s Earth Day posts lacked ideas. I DO NOT agree with The Mad Ape’s Earth Day post. Because there is actually evidence that people are seriously messing with the earth and all the Mad Ape has to say is, “It does not need your saving. Read my blog entry on this matter” yet says nothing to back up said con claim, other than, “It’s a con.”

Then the blog, which by the way is called, True Confessions of a Mad Ape for the Banancially Challenged, posts something nice and helpful like this: Fight through the Blog Fog.

In any case, I think it’s nice to showcase something a little different now and then, and The Mad Ape left a much smarter comment than my typical hate emails which read like this, “Your post on global warming sucks” ah, how smart and well said.

Plus without the Mad Apes of the world where would we be? We sure wouldn’t know how to express ourselves with – speed painting with fries and ketchup – which was actually pretty amazing.

So if you’re up for a little slice of anti tree hugging, or some good rants on other topics, visit True Confessions of a Mad Ape for the Banancially Challenged – let me know what you think.
