ReJAVAnate Reusable Bags
I’ve got some pretty cool bags today - if you happen to be looking.
ReJAVAnate reusable bags are very cool bags, with a great background story. The bags are made from burlap that’s reused from coffee sacks. Take a look:

You can also get bags with no logos for just $8.00 - $9.00.
Douglas from ReJAVAnate notes, “We take burlap from coffee roasters that would be otherwise sent to landfill, work with The ARC who serves individuals with developmental disabilities to hand make the bags, and sell them to individuals and organizations who want to make a statement about reducing paper and plastic bag consumption.”
Other facts about these bags and the company, from the ReJAVAnate website include:
- “They reduce a significant source of landfill waste
- They provide jobs to those that often have difficulty finding jobs
- They provide a good way to reduce our paper and plastic bag consumption
- 800,000 tons of burlap are put into landfills every year
- The ARC helps 140,000 people find housing and employment
- US consumes over 380 billion plastic bags, sacks and wraps
- 14 million trees were cut to produce 10 billion paper bags for grocery stores in the US”
Before I decided to write full time, I worked as a social worker, both with homeless youth and disabled individuals. Many of the individuals I spent time working with were also associated with ARC, a very cool program that does really offer useful programs and perks to individuals with disabilities.
I also worked as a job coach with folks with disabilities and jobs are harder to find. So these bags do have a nice story behind them, I’d recommend them just for that reason. Plus they look totally cool - I love the look of burlap and it’s also a strong material, so these bags will likely last and last.
