Plan A Green & Gorgeous Birthday!

November 25, 2008 by Jennifer

I’m not sure when green got a bad rap, but sometimes you still hear folks saying things like,”Green is too hippie, too clunky, too earthy, too something” but they always say it in this voice that makes it perfectly clear that green, is not so pretty.

Granted, I do adore the hippie earthy stuff, but I also like some sparkle, a dash of glitter, and even a little pink along with my green. That said, and being that it’s my birthday (so I can do as I please), I decided to hold a beautiful birthday event here. I’m going to point out some items that you can get for your own birthday (or a special friend’s birthday) that are not only green, but crushingly pretty.

I like white cake actually; but these cakes made me think, “Heck, I can deal with chocolate!” Birthday cakes from this company are highlighted with pure edible gold or silver, and dusted with organic fair trade cocoa or coated with an organic icing sugar.

What to top your beautiful cake off with:

First of all, you can use beeswax birthday candles, over traditional wax. It’s a cleaner, greener burn, and natural beeswax is way soothing, creamy in color, and pretty. Secondly, it’s almost a crime to have birthday cake, and not have these adorable little Bird Birthday Candle Holders I found. Lead-free, pewter, and very vintage looking.

The birthday card: If your goal is pretty, I’d go with the Grow-A-Note Happy Birthday Card. Not only is this simple sweet design perfect for a beautiful birthday event, but you get to plant the card which is embedded with oodles of wildflower seeds – this card gets prettier each year!

How to wrap it up pretty and green:

Many places offer green wrapping paper now, but none offer quite what the PS Green Choices line offers. This line is 100% recycled, 30% post-consumer waste paper made, and offers lovely style choices too. It’s available at Paper Source. They’ve got some great eco-holiday wrap if you’re looking, but since this is all about the birthday, I picked four paper designs I really love for a birthday:

What’s next?

  1. Gifts of course silly. I didn’t forget – the green and gorgeous birthday gifts are coming up next. You won’t want to miss it; I seriously found the best stuff.
  2. Later today, I’ll be posting a very cool giveaway launch here, so even if pretty birthdays aren’t your bag, you’ll still want to check back in. Or you could just check back in tomorrow- it is my birthday so I may take some time off. While I’m pretty sure I’ll get the second birthday post up, the giveaway post may be up pretty late. We’ll see.
