One Small Step: Slow Down Speed Racer
April 13, 2008 by Jennifer
The faster you drive the more fuel you burn. As soon as you get above 60 mph your mileage starts to decrease pretty darn quickly. CNN notes that, “Every 10 miles per hour you drive over 60 is like the price of gasoline going up about 54 cents a gallon.” So besides saving non-renewable resources you can also save some cash. Size doesn’t matter either, by slowing down, you save on resources and money no matter if you car is tiny or large.
We act like we have unlimited oil reserves, but some research shows that it took nature over 250 million years to make the oil that we’ll likely use up within the next 100 years. I say conserve now. Better yet buy a more fuel efficient car, better even, buy a car that doesn’t run on gas. To learn about greener car options visit Eco Friendly Driver.

Thanks for the mention, Jennifer.
I saw kind of a scary thing today. Someone was talking about gas prices, and another person chimed in, “Why aren’t we drilling in Alaska?” and others followed with “Or in this place? Or along the coast? Or..” as if the cost of oil is only measured in dollars and cents.
Don’t other humans astound you sometimes. It’s insane – we hear about this stuff all the time. I wonder if people are in denial.
