One Small Step: Microwave Care

by Jennifer on May 9th, 2008

Always clean your microwave right away.

One: Fresh messes wipe out easily with water only. No cleaners needed.

Two: Clean microwaves save energy. A dirty microwave cooks less efficiently and thus wastes extra energy to cook foods completely.

Three: Dirty microwaves are gross. Ok, not green-related, but icky to me.

And if you have a dirty microwave how do you clean it? Meaning you forgot to clean the mess one day right away.

Heat a glass bowl of water with the the juice of a lemon in the microwave until steaming. It will steam the dirt and make it easy to wipe. You don’t need the lemon, but it smells nice.

You can also heat up some vinegar and water. This will help to break up the grime. I hate cleaning the microwave. :(

Yup Karen is right. Vinegar works good. The smell of vinegar has made me want to heave since I was little though; thus I use it for almost nothing. Usually only if a recipe calls for it, and even then I try not to use it.
