No Child Left Inside

Can you remember sitting at your desk at school and longing to get outside? I recall it well, especially during the spring months. Sitting near a window was sometimes even worse since it reminded you of what you were missing.
No Child Left Inside Coalition is a group devoted to alerting Congress and the public to the need for public schools in the US to devote more resources and attention to environmental education.
We’re growing kids who are taught to pass tests. Those important tests include very little about the environment, so many public schools don’t focus on this issue.
No Child Left Inside is trying to change that by providing funding for environmental education and encouraging teachers to get students outside to help them learn from real-world examples in nature.
To help reach the goals of offering environmental eduction, the group wants an amendment added to No Child Left Behind.
You can help in several ways outlined on the No Child Left Inside website.

This is so true. I remember wanting to be outside and being so bored when I was in school. Even now I would much rather go outside and read a book, draw (or blog, lol) outside. It’s like pulling teeth to get my daughter to come in even for 5 minutes so i can get something.
Hi Kisha! Everyone seems to enjoy blogging outside. Maybe I need to get into the laptop thing more. I have one that we bought used, but I never liked the keyboard. I just use my good ole sit at the desk Mac.
Late to the party, but this is an excellent post. I love this thinking. I have a lot of books on eco-ed, or I should say the lack there of. This is one of the major reasons I unschool. I wouldn’t make my worst enemy sit at a desk inside for 16 + years – why I’d make my child do so is a mystery to me. Schools seriously need to get on board with eco-ed.
An excellent idea.
If I have opportunity I would like to launch a similar intiative in Brazil.
