Just for Fun - Cool Tents

by Jennifer on April 19th, 2008

Tents are an item kids love. If you have a tent you can go camping of course, but stay dry if it rains, or you can simply hang out in the backyard. Tents are a great way to get the kiddos outside. The only problem with tents is that most are yawn inducing.

Here are some fun tent options:

With this first tent you get to feel like a leaf on a tree. Impractical based on the cost, but way fun to see. It’s called the tree tent, designed by the very cool Dré Wapenaar, an individual who creates pieces that combine architecture, design and sculpture.

Wapenaar also designed Tenvillage - which I would have loved as a kid.

The Magic Tent: The magic tent is more along what you can afford - plus looks super fun. This tent is actually a cool scavenger hunt game. There’s a mystery clue book that comes with the game (The first Mystery Treasure Hunt is Volume One: Adventures in Alaska.) This game combines environmental and nature facts with a mystery to solve.

Description: “Young adventurers climb into the full-size, indoor play tent and begin reading the story. The story contains hints to finding clues that parents have hidden around the house. After reading each hint, the kids climb out of the tent and race to find the hidden clue. When they have collected all the clues, they’ll fit them together to reveal a secret message.”

This active game combines science, reading, adventure, movement and is full of imagination. Because parents hide the clues, the game changes each time. There’s a second set you can buy called The Magic Tent Expansion Pack - Mystery Treasure Hunt Vol. 2 - Australia.

Awesome tents, esp the leaf one. I’ve never seen these. Guess I don’t spend much time around kids.

Well, the two first tents are not exactly for kids, I just thought they might enjoy seeing them. They’re more art installations and very expensive - but the last tent item is affordable and fun- i.e. really for kiddos.
