INK + WIT Spooky & Sweet Fall Giveaway
September 5, 2009 by Jennifer
Yesterday I told you about INK + WIT, a very cool sustainable art boutique. I love their pieces, and I’m thrilled to announce that one lucky Tree Hugging Family Reader is going to win a super amazing prize from them…
What you can win:

One reader will win a spooky set of 10 “Halloween Crow” postcards (shown above) AND a sweet limited edition “Pommebirds” print (shown below). The 10 postcards are 4×6 chipboard kraft 103lb thick, with soy based ink and the lovely print is a letterpress limited edition (one of just 300 prints); 8.5×11 acid free archival Stonehenge printmaking paper and soy ink (frame and matte not include). This is an amazing prize and arrives just in time to perk up your autumn.

How to enter:
Since we’re giving away some Halloween goodies, leave a comment on this post telling me how your family are planning to celebrate a green Halloween this year (no it’s not too early to plan!). Are you handing out Fair Trade treats? Making recycled costumes? What? Let me know. IF your family does not celebrate Halloween, that’s cool too. Instead tell me one thing your family is doing to green your life this fall.
RULES:
- If you don’t follow the ONE how to enter rule above I’ll delete your comment. Comments that say, “Hey, enter me” will be disqualified.
- Anyone with a mailing address in the U.S. can enter. Sorry, no international or Canadian entries on this giveaway.
- Comment entries must be posted by September 11, 2009 – midnight my time (west coast).
I’ll randomly draw one winner on Sept 12th, post the winner here, and send the winner an email with more details.
Good luck!

I’m so glad I found your blog. I am a former recycling coordinator. Now that I am a mom, I am constantly looking for ways to incorporate green items into my son’s life. We attend a fall carnival at our church. I plan to lead an activity for the children where they make seasonal cards to share with someone special out of paper they recycle with my recycling kit. Thanks for thinking of giveaway. I love recycled paper art!
There are very few kids in my neighborhood, so we don’t really celebrate much here. My baby is still in utero so I’ll probably spend Halloween painting the nursery with low VOC paint, sewing diapers from recycled fabrics, and decorating the nursery with objects we already have or picked up second hand
Next year, I will definitely be dressing the wee one in a costume made from things we already have.
We will be making homemade treats to hand out – toffee and honey roasted peanuts! Plus, we are planning to raid each other’s closets to put together some crazy costumes!
A green Halloween! What a great idea. Since I live in a place that tends to get particularly filthy after Halloween night, I’m planning a next-day clean-up session around town (especially because I live next to the ocean and we’ve got to get all of that trash before it washes away to the Big Pacific Garbage Patch
)
We don’t acknowledge Halloween, but we do use reusable cloth shopping bags every time we shop and we also use green cleaning products. Thank you for the contest!
I plan on looking at the prepackaged candy options and determined which is best – I know none of them is green but I can at least try some harm reduction. WE cannot give out handmade goods because the parents will throw it way (and they probably should).
My kids will dress up using items we already have. We will distribute organic vegan chocolate to the trick or treaters.
we will choose decorations that will last for years to come, so we won’t have to keep buying new ones. We’ll use rechargable batteries to power battery-operated decorations
We don’t have many anymore but I do make special bags of treats to the ones I know will be coming. Thanks
I just had my first baby girl so this will be my first Halloween as a mommy. I will sew her costume. I’m not sure what she will be this year… In addition to that, I will make home-made candy apples. I use organic apples and make my own caramel. My nieces and nephews will have fun decorating them too! Thanks for the contest.
We will not be using Halloween themed paper plates and napkins. I bought some inexpensive plastic dishes and cloth napkins that we can use every year.
We are reusing our costume from last year. We are also sewing a trick or treat bag from fabric we already have. We buy decorations from thrift stores instead of new ones.
Thanks! foxsquirrelrabbit at gmail dot com
Our green halloween this year will be at my Mom’s. We’re baking halloween cookies instead of buying packaged candies and reusing costumes and decorations as much as possible.
We will most likely get costumes from Goodwill to reuse instead of buying new…We most likely won’t give out candy, we will be taking the boys around to get candy, and staying in the neighborhood instead of driving around would be great on saving gas, as well.
We’re actually making homemade candy for trick or treaters…. saving money, and waste of paper/plastic!
We are making our own canvas candy bags, and we got rechargeable flashlights
We reuse all our Halloween decorations and reuse Halloween bags. We’ll also be in our driveway with our neighbors passing out candy, so the lights will be off in our homes. Thanks!
we will be making homemade candy to give out to the kids we know and the parents that don’t mind.
we reuse our halloween costumes and pick them up
my mom makes our halloween costumes for the kids, we love halloween
My son will not get a store bought costume but a homemade one.
Since i am a stay at home mom i have been trying to recycle more and more everyday and make my living green. since my annversary is on halloween we make a great big deal out of it. my kids get to pick costumes out of everyday items… last year my son was a egg carton very cute and my daughter was a baby doll. we do not know yet this year but i know its going to be great.
We’ll be handing out candy and waiting to see all the cute kids in their costumes.

We will be planting a fall garden in a few weeks and composting everything that has died or finished producing from our spring garden. I think we’re going to try to plant more from heirloom seeds instead of hybrids, too.
We dont celebrate Halloween but we do use cloth shopping bags to cut down on paper and plastic bag usage!

My daughter is still too young for Halloween. We are switching to cloth napkins right now though and cutting out sodas to decrease our trash waste.
we live in the middle of no-where so we don’t really celebrate Halloween. We are carpooling to save gas to go green!
There are not many kids in my small town and our community center has a halloween party for those that want to attend. I will be helping with that, giving back to my community.
Well I am hoping if I can get started soon to use all recycled material for costumes. Ask me in Nov if it worked!
We are handmaking our costume this year!! Thanks for the chance.

We handmake our costumes every year and we have these cute Go Green Halloween candy bags!
Reuse all decorations that I bought used from garage sales and thrift stores. That’s pretty green. Hopefully costumes will be crafted from thrift stores as well.
We have made recycled costumes since last year. We also make our own candy bags. We bicycle instead of driving around the neighborhood.
This year we decided to plant a pumpkin patch in our backyward with the help of our 6 year old son. After planting the patch, we decided that instead of giving out candy this Halloween we would have our son’s classmates over for a pumpkin picking party. We also have been documenting our “pumpkin patch journey” in a scrapbook that our son plans on sharing with his friends during the party.
We’re making our own costumes this year
Homemade costumes are the order of the Halloween party.
I think it’d be great to give out modeling clay to the T&T’ers.
we are handing out small boxes of raisins this year:)
We’re making recycled costumes.
