Hug This Tree: Blue Jacaranda
March 3, 2008 by Jennifer
The Blue Jacaranda is a newer tree to me. I was looking for something else, when I came upon it. I was really struck by how beautiful it is though; so, today we’re giving it a great big hug.

Amazing! Really lush and such a great color.
This sub-tropical tree can be planted in most places without major frost – many of the most lovely ones I’ve seen photos of are in New Zealand but they’re native to North America I believe. Many gardening sites note that some people object to this tree because of the massive amount of ground flower litter produced after the spring. Still, it would be great to wake up and see this outside your window while it’s blooming.

Here’s some more info about this tree from a blog I found – a VERY cool blog I might add, called Tree Species. Of course there’s some great reading there. We’ll need to add this one to our blogroll for sure.
My favorite thing about this tree is the sprawl. In my opinion nicely spread trees are the best. What do you think?

I grew up and lived in Los Angeles for 40 years. Jacaranda’s are everywhere and are really dramatic in the spring. However, they are very messy when in bloom and can create some really slippery streets when it rains. I miss them living in Bulgaria.
They get all slip & slide like in the street huh? That can be obnoxious – here in Oregon, we get that with flowering trees a lot. Still I bet that a lot of these trees in one place are very dramatic in the spring; it sounds pretty. It’s nice to hear someone else say they actually miss a tree – that’s what I kept saying the whole time I lived in NM, “I miss the trees.” Thanks for sharing
