My jackolanterns are all grown in my own garden (cut out pieces used to make puree for cooking. Done close enough so they can be eaten after) All of my costumes are recycled from pasted years or found material. Love to hear how others green their lives.

If I could avoid Halloween, I would because of the commercialism. When did Halloween become the Halloween season vs. one day?

Anyway, my kids are so into it. They love the jack-o-lanterns and decorations that start popping up in our neighborhood as soon as October is close enough that people can smell it. Year round, my kids discuss their next Halloween costume (We need a dress-up box!). I imagine a lot of wee ones do the same.

So here's what we're doing this year:
-Yummy Earth lollipops
-fair trade reverse trick-or-treat
-eat pumpkins and compost (but that's not necessarily Halloween-- it's the fall harvest!)
-temporarily transform the boys' new sweatsuits into costumes by adding little details, trying to use only stuff we already have
-not buying any Halloween gear, like decorations or trick-or-treat bags
