We are not using paper to wrap our presents. we sew, so we are using those fat quarters of quilting fabric from the craft store and some ribbon to make drawstring bags for our presents. Then the receiver can re-use the bag as well!

We replaced all our house decorating lights with LEDs this year to cut down on our electrical usage and we decided to plant a tree in honor of our new daughter (3 months now) to help cut down on the cooling costs to our home in the summer. I’m also using eco-friendly yarn in all my knit gifts this year.

I am making almost all my christmas gifts for my family this year, rehabbing stuff I already have here at home. This is the first year that I am doing this, and I like this idea better that buying a whole bunch of stuff with money I do not have right now.

I’m making a purse out of fabric the grocery store was going to throw out. It’ll carry my notebook, instead of a big bulky planner with lots of pages.

Green activity: I recycle wrapping paper and boxes but been doing this a long time. I save mailing envelopes also. I’m better at hiking than baking and have found a new love “geocaching,” hiking for treasures. I also knit and have started presents in July (sales for yarn and all) plus time involved. This is very well appreciated by receivers and love the finished products myself. I love to make my own cards so here is hoping

Does putting up a really old fake Christmas tree count? Lights are burned out and it’s really gotten “wrinkly,” but I can’t see us buying a new one a month before moving and we haven’t bought a fresh tree in ages. I sure do miss the smell, though!

We had our natural gas turned off, only heat the room we are in with heaters. If we have company we fire up the wood stove fueled with wood that came down in a bad icestorm. We also installed a 4 gal. point of use waterheater in the bath, you hav to turn the water off between soaping up and rinsing off or you finish with a cold rinse! It works for us, but then we don’t have teenagers.;)
