High Gas Prices Lead to More Biking

May 27, 2008 by Peggy

bike-commute.jpgWhen our apartment lease is up in a few months, we’re considering moving closer to where my husband works. That will not only save him time, but will save us hundreds of dollars a month — that’s the cost of owning a second automobile, including gas. We’re figuring the higher cost of living near where he works will be cancelled out by the savings of no commute.

Imagine living close enough to walk or bike to work. For many, the higher cost of gas is stimulating that reality. And if there’s anything good about the high gas prices, it’s that it’s helping us to reduce emissions!

Read this CNN lifestyles article about how many people are making changes to avoid spending money on gas.

Have you made any lifestyles changes because of gas prices?

Yes! We are attempting to bike everywhere we can this summer! We hoped to put on 100 miles over the next 5 months, but w/the way this month is going we may be able to do 150 =) We started another blog to chronicle our efforts. http://100bikemiles.blogspot.com The hardest part is when we want to go visit family who are close (50-80 miles away) but not close enough to bike to! We feel they are worth the gas money right now, but just the fact that we are considering less visits sucks. I appreciate you ladies encouraging bicycle use! Stay safe – I already wiped out once!
