Have You Gone Used Yet?
Marye at Baking Delights posted about finding old cookbooks at thrift stores. And, that’s really like cheating since you get to use someone else’s cooking notes. You can even bake a recipe and give it to a special person with an old cookbook as a unique birthday gift. Wouldn’t that be just precious?
Her post reminded me of the Used for the New Year post I did as a guest blogger here just after Christmas. Soon, it will be garage-sale season, but it’s always thrift-store season.
I encourage you to try shopping used. It might take some looking around just a bit, but the gift recipient will likely be more impressed with a well thought out vintage gift than with a shiny new gadget from electric warehouse. And you can always shop for yourself as well.
If you’ve found something really fly that’s used lately, I would love to hear about it.

I am at this exact moment wearing a pair of olive pants that I found brand new at the thrift store for $4! I thought that was a steal considering they just jacked up the price of ALL jeans to $10. I haven’t been thrifting much lately but I dig all things used. The best is when you mention to a friend that you are looking for something and they either have it, or found it for you at a garage sale or thrift store! It’s so cool to be part of a group of people that share the same philosophy and find joy in the used deals =)

Well, my best find to date was a Victorian era persian silk rug that I got for $2.00 and I on’t tell you what it is worth.
:)
Or the first edition Little House on the Prairie book that I got for $1.00 and sold on eBay for 65.00
or…..I try to dumpster dive first, if I can’t get it that way then I hit thrift stores, if no there then craigs list, and if not there garage sales. Never have had to buy new…other than the way cool red spagetti pot I bought with some unexpected funds yesterday…I needed one and I likem y cooking utensils to be new.

I haven’t had really great used find lately although I have had great luck with Ebay in the past. You can also find used books on Amazon and Half.com.

DramaMama, cool find! And olive pants are so versatile.
Marye, sounds like you could take some items to Antiques Roadshow! : ) Congrats on the cool new cooking item.
N&J, yes, I’ve noticed amazon gives you used options. That’s great. I’ve never tried half.com though. I’ll check it out. Paperbackswap.com is another good place to go for books if you have some you want to get rid of.
