Happy November
I hope everyone had a safe and green Halloween!
November is here now and it should be a busy month around both Tree Hugging Family and the channel. For instance…
Bloggers (and blog lovers) take note:
A bunch of our bloggers and b5 staff are going to be traveling to the Blog World Expo in Las Vegas. If you’re a blogger or just curious about blogging and will be attending the event the b5media post about Blog Expo is a must read. B5 is going to have a booth with all kinds of cool prizes you can win and of course you’d get to meet some of the great bloggers from around the network. I won’t be there this year (sad) but hopefully next year.
Did we skip November?
Autumn is in full swing and yet I just saw a Christmas commercial yesterday. Holy. Here at Tree Hugging Family the song of the season is going to be a less commercial, less stuff. and more authentic holiday. However, if one of the ways you celebrate is with holiday gifts then those gifts should be green minded. It’s silly to expect complete gift withdrawal (believe me I get it) so for November and possibly part of December I’m going to be posting a daily eco-friendly gift idea. Hopefully some will spark your interest or you can always tell me some of your favorite green gifts.
You can never have too many contests:
We’re going to be having a contest or two so watch for that — I’m slow with logistics (too organized — it’s a crime really) but I’ll figure out how I want it to roll soon and get that going.
Kid style kick-off:
So you’ll never believe this but Cedar and I are STILL working on our autumn wreath. At this point we’re going to have to collect pine and berries and call it a winter wreath. There are just so many fun things to do outside this time of year that our art projects have been slacking. Maybe yours are all caught up though. In that case you can start decorating for Thanksgiving with one of these fun projects:
This first project is cool because it’s double recycle worthy — first recycle your milk jug into a game and later toss it in the recycling bin. This turkey in the photo looks a tad wild-eyed and crazy but you can make yours less insane if you choose.
Or you can try this adorable Thanksgiving tree project.

Both the turkey and tree projects can be found at the Celebrate Thanksgiving page at Winmark Communications (a site for families). The turkey instructions are free but they want you to buy a tree making kit. You do not need to buy one. If you want to fine; but really you can collect recycled scraps from around the house and make your own easily.
What else is coming:
Eco Thanksgiving planning, early winter planning, new small steps for your family, and some amazing books that every green living family should have in their collection.
