To Like or Not: Clorox Green Works (plus a giveaway)
September 11, 2008 by Peggy
I saw the new Clorox Green Works dishwashing liquid at my grocery store a few days ago. I almost tried it, but Seventh Generation (free & clear) was on sale. I’ve tried Seventh Generation’s dishwashing powder (read the review), but this is my first go with the dishwashing liquid (for hand washing). I’ll let you know how I like it later on.
My point though is that Karen at Thrifty Mommy is giving away five bottles of Green Works dishwashing liquid. The contest ends September 16, so go to the contest post now to enter.
Yes, I do have very mixed feelings about supporting Clorox, and I think their agreement with Sierra Club is questionable. (Sierra Club receives a chunk of dough in exchange for the use of their logo on Green Works products.)
However, I do like that Clorox isn’t trying to hide who they are. In other words, Clorox is owning up to its product, unlike Colgate that tries to downplay ownership of Tom’s of Maine and Dial Corp that has gone very much out of the way to hide their ownership of Pure & Natural. (Thanks Jessie M. for alerting me to Pure & Natural’s ownership.)
What do you think of Green Works?

Thanks for raising this issue. Not only would I never buy anything from Clorox because of the toxic chemicals they promote and produce, but Clorox continues to test its products on animals, which is cruel and certainly not required by law. Why support such practices when there are plenty of cruelty-free, healthier, more eco-friendly options?
Thanks for visiting Marsha and for reminding me that Clorox tests on animals. I am certainly an animal lover. I can’t believe that slipped my mind.
I’ve only use one thing from Clorox Green Works, the toilet cleaner. It worked like any other.. nothing fabulous. But I think I will end up going back to the Mrs. Meyers toilet cleaner, it lasted MUCH longer and smelled nicer as well. Plus, after reading Marsha’s post and reminding us what practices Clorox uses, I won’t buy it ever again. As for dish soap, I use either 7th Gen or Sun and Earth. These are my favs. Method’s has a ncie scent, but you waste a lot of water because it is harder to rinsse the soap off. And when I used Method, my kids couldn’t help do dishes because they didn’t rinse it well enough. hehe
Jodi,
I also used Method dw liquid, but thought the top was too difficult to open and close. I like 7G so far.
Good tip on Mrs. Meyers toilet cleaner.
this stuff works really well…I use the whole line
I liked the products. I spoke with the company rep who sent them to me for review and she told me they are working on ways to change their products to be fully natural, not even %1 un-natural.
As for testing on animals and other issues with Clorox, I’m sorry to say, but if you use even one product in your home to clean that isn’t homemade…you’re supporting the use of chemicals and animal testing.
Cleaners come in metal, cardboard, or plastic packaging. Whatever is inside the container had to be processed in some manner. Heck, being a consumer in any manner leads to the same end. If you eat sugar, you’re eating something filtered through charred animal bones. (unless you’re away and switched to a different brand)
The list goes on and on. I’d prefer to buy from someone who is honest than to pretend to myself that everyone who claims to be green really is.
*aware, not away. Jeez, I can’t type.
