Green Wedding Tip: Alternatives to Reply Cards
May 21, 2008 by Peggy
Did you catch Jennifer’s post on digital wedding invitations? She followed it up with another one as well.
The invitation is a difficult decision. You may really want to be all green and digital, but just can’t get rid of that craving for a traditional paper invite. That’s understandable.
But there’s one tradition you can easily do without — the reply card. Nixing the reply card will save an additional piece of paper, another envelope and a stamp.
So, how would your guests let you know if they’re attending?
It’s easy, and there are a number of options:
•Get your own wedding website with an RSVP function. You can do a free trial at wedding tracker (features an RSVP manager).
•Use a wedding RSVP service that provides a phone number and website for your guests. Some services even follow up with guests who don’t respond. Just do a search for “wedding RSVP service” to find the one that’s right for you.
•If you don’t have the budget for a wedding website or RSVP service, simply include an email address. I’d recommend a free Google e-mail named something like peggy.wedding@gmail.com.
•In any event, give guests the option to phone. Not everyone is down with the Internet.
Just include a small line at the end of your invite:
“Please RSVP by June 10 at www.mygreenwedding-rowland.com or call 453-989-9893.”
Wouldn’t that be much easier than stamping a bunch of reply cards? Of course, the folks who sell wedding invites aren’t going to tell you to do this, but it’s gaining in popularity among the eco-conscious brides! Try it out.

We just got a friend’s invite last month and they simply put their email and phone # down for people to RSVP. I thought that was an awesome idea since it was right before postage prices went up! Great tips ladies…Thanks!
Glad you liked the tips DramaMama! I think the phone number to RSVP will make it’s way into the wedding book aisle soon if it hasn’t already. The reply card just seems so unnecessary, plus I always feel guilty mailing it back when I’m not attending.
We actually built a wedding website for our wedding last summer and created an RSVP form to go along with it. We just added a line to our invitations saying that people could rsvp at our website, SeanAndKatlyn.com, send us an email, or give us a call. Our guests really liked it and we automated it so that our guests would get an html email back when they replied through our website. That meant that we didn’t need to reply to the replies – good time saver.
We’re offering the service to other people now through our website – http://www.skweddingwebsite.com/rsvp.html
Thanks for pointing this idea out as green, I always just thought it was a techy idea.
That is really cool!! Sometimes we talk about getting married all over again, now we have more reasons than just to register for new gifts!
