Green Product Review: Sun & Earth Liquid Hand Soap

July 18, 2008 by Peggy

Sun & Earth sent me some liquid hand soap and automatic dishwasher detergent to review. I’ll get to the dishwasher detergent later, but this post is all about the nice hand soap.

sun-and-earth-hand-soap.jpgI adore this soap. Here’s more on why I like it:

• Refreshing, but subtle scent. It has a citrus scent, but overall it just really reminds me of a clean-smelling kitchen. It’s not at all like some of the strong lemon-scented “kitchen soaps” for sale.

• It’s obviously gentle. The hypoallergenic soap is made for sensitive skin. It’s natural with soothing ingredients like aloe vera.

• Made in the USA, and not tested on animals. Sun & Earth products are even Kosher certified by the Orthodox Union.

Refills are available! You can start with the cute 8 oz pump, and then keep it stocked with either a 16 oz. refill bottle, 1 gallon refill or a 5 gallon pail. I’m impressed. And prices are reasonable. One gallon refill is only $12. The 16 oz refill is $4.49. (online)

• The pump bottle is #1 recyclable.

• It cleans well and rinses easily.

• No dyes or perfumes. Natural ingredients are listed on the packaging.

Sun & Earth also offers a nice variety of household cleaners, including laundry detergent.

I bought this soap at our local Whole Foods this Winter because my hands had gotten sensitive. I like it a lot and plan to get it again– when we run out of it next year, that is! Our 16 oz. refill bottle is going a long way because I dillute it and put it in a foaming dispenser. I added a couple drops of cucumber essential oil to one dispenser, which goes well with the light citrus scent.

Katherine. Whole Foods? I tried to figure out from their website if they sold anywhere besides online. Guess I missed that.

Thanks for pointing it out. I see now where they have retailers listed! Oops. I’ll correct that in my post.

I use their fabric softener but haven’t tried any other products yet. They have a good deal on their dish detergent right now also that I am going to take advantge of.

Hey Jodi. I’m currently trying out their dishwasher tabs. Hope to get a review up soon.
