Green Product Review: Moonpads Reusable Menstrual Pads
February 15, 2009 by Jennifer

Hey there folks – today I’ve got a review of Moonpads for you. In case you missed it, there’s an excellent Moonpads giveaway going on right now. After the review make sure you enter.
Product: Moonpads Reusable Menstrual Pads. I took a look at the following Moonpads – panty liner, regular absorbancy, and extra absorbent.
Basics: I posted all the basic product stats in a previous post. To learn more about these pads read: Moonpads Reusable Menstrual Pads – Product Profile.
What I think:
Product pros:
Thin and work! I hate reusable pads that are bulky (my major issue with many brands). These are thin, comfortable, and in spite of that work well. They don’t get sticky or icky. Now in the TMI arena, I do have lighter periods so I can’t say they’ll work as well for someone with a heavy cycle, BUT my guess is that they will. I played around with the extra absorbent pad – I poured some nice h2O on it just to see how much it holds without getting too soggy, and it held quite a lot considering how thin it is. The panty liner was awesome too – very thin.
Wash well. I ran these through every load of wash I’ve done over the last few weeks – just to push them to their limit, (I followed the included directions) and they held up great. No fraying, no buttons popping off, no major color fading. These are very well made pads. While I can’t offer a long term opinion, being that I haven’t had them for years, you can tell that these will last a long time.
Non-mobile: Some reusable (and some non-reusable pads) move around. These stay put. The snaps work well. These won’t work as well with your tiniest undies, but who wears those during their period anyhow?
Great instructions included: This is a key point that many reusable pad brands miss. Not all of us know how to care for pads. These pads came with an easy to read, well thought out care and use manual. I really like that extra touch.

Best ever designs – seriously where else are you gonna find sock monkey pads, cute cherry pads, and all these other styles. I like that some designs are serious and some are playful. I also like all the color options. It’s easy for your period to get a little ho-hum, so these pads add a little perk to that time of the month.
Cost-effective: You can buy pads over and over and over. OR you can buy Moonpads that will last a good long while. Hmmm? Not too hard a choice. These pads are extremely well-priced for reusable pads plus are guaranteed for five years.
Example: One full collection of Moonpads will set you back about $80. However. If you factor in a five year life, that’s about one -two packs of non-reusable pads a month. If you get disposable chlorine-free pads that’s an overall cost of $200-$400 over five years. That’s if you buy bulk. You can save $100-$300 plus with Moonpads.
Some other random eco-perks I liked about these pads:
- Made with organic cotton.
- Minimal packaging used for shipping.
- Non-toxic which is healthier for your body.
- Save the landfills!
- No major production toxins produced.
Product cons:
Well, to be honest, I’m not sure I found any cons. Thus far, in life, Glad Rags have been my fave reusable pads hands down, and like Glad Rags, the only con I can think of is when you machine dry Moonpads they can get a little un-flat. Not bunchy, they just don’t lay flat. You can solve this by taking them out of the dryer right away or hanging them to dry.
Overall score:

Five out of five happy little trees. They work, they’re cute, and they’re good for the planet. I’d rate these along side my old favorite reusable pads Glad Rags. FYI: Moonpads have better design features though. They’re way more fun.
