Green Audit 101
August 25, 2007 by Jennifer
You may of heard of a green home audit; maybe a green you audit even. Basically an audit is simply investigating the current situation. You can do an audit for just about anything but obviously here we’ll be looking at green (or eco) audits. Because every human is unique and every home is different each audit in the world will present varying result. Still, there are components of typical green audits that will apply to everyone.
You can do a lot with an green audit.
You can gain powerful information about how you’re currently living — that may include what type of consumer you are, how you think or feel about environmental topics, how your family is doing as green advocates, and how your home and community stack up (are they eco-friendly or eco-downers?).
You can use the information you gain from a green audit in different ways.
If you’re happy with how you’re living you don’t have to do anything or you can use the information to take action for positive change.
Maybe your green audit shows that you get an A+ in green living! In that case soy ice cream all around!
But honestly most of us need a little help. A green audit can show you where your family needs help and allows you to look for the tools necessary to make eco-friendly changes. There are tons of different green audits you can do. Over the next (however long it takes) I’ll be bringing a couple different green audits to Tree Hugging Family each week. I’ll cover different rooms of your home, your consumer and social habits, and other kinds of helpful eco-audits.
Information is the most powerful resource we have when it comes to saving the planet. Hopefully, your family will be able to take some time and complete some of the audits. I’ll be adding a “Green Audit” category to the side of the blog so if you don’t have time one week you can skip it and always go back when you do have time.
Know that you don’t have to change the scope of your home or life in a single week, month, or year. I’ve seen green audits completely freak people out but believe me change is gradual. Change that is gradual; even very slow is still positive. The most important thing is to try.
Small steps can change the world.
Stay tuned for upcoming green audits for everyone in your family.
