Five ways to conserve water in less than one minute
Here are some great ways to conserve our planet’s water and cut your water bill. The best news, each step takes under a minute to complete.

- Fill a pitcher with water. Place said pitcher in your fridge. Result - you stop letting the tap run when you want cold water to drink, and save up to 24 cups of water per drink.
- Add some red food coloring to your toilet tank. Come back in 30 minutes. See red on the floor? If so you have a leak and are wasting water all day long. Call a pro in to fix it or this tip could go well over a minute.
- If it’s yellow, let it mellow (yuck to think about I know). However, you can save up to 3.5 gallons of water per non-flush. Even better, this tip actually takes negative minutes because you’re doing zip. Ah.
- Rinse your dishes right away after eating. If each family member does their own dishes that’s less than a minute each. Later, you won’t have to rinse your dishes for a long time before washing in the dish washer and if you hand wash, it’ll save you time and water too. The main issue with those dishes that take forever to get clean is long-term stuck on food.
- Shave one minute off of your 10 minute shower and save well, one minute, and up to 7 gallons of water.
Now you tell me one way to conserve water in under a minute?

I’ve never heard of the red food coloring trick before. It’s easy to clean up, right? : )

Dont forget to add a brick, a filled container, or some other space taking up object to add to the tank of your toilet. This means less water used per flush.
Turn off running water while you brush your teeth.
If you’re going to have a lawn, use timed automatic sprinklers. This helps to avoid water waste from putting off, or forgetting to turn the manual sprinklers off.

To avoid running the water when rinsing dishes for the dishwasher, we put a little water in the sink and rinse everything in the same water.
I read somewhere that dishes don’t need to be rinsed when you are going to run the dishwasher right away. I tried it, and it was so quick and simple to load the dishwasher that it felt kind of crazy. And everything came out fine. That saves time and water!
