Here is how prices end up so high: #1 Fair price to the producer is higher than an unfair price #2 Import costs (greater for small businesses than big businesses) #3 Marking up enough to stay in business Our little international shop did okay and managed to keep products affordable, so long as we stayed small (like limited store hours and volunteer labor), but when we tried to increase our market so we could expand our relationships with international producers, our little place went bust after four years.
