EPA Kid Resources
I’ve mentioned a couple of EPA kid resources in the past, but way in the past. I’m bringing them up again because they really are the best around. My son LOVES them. He joined the Planet Protectors Club about two years ago and is really into recycling topics now. He enjoys the short story format and never gets tired of solving the recycling mystery. He joined back when the EPA was still sending the Planet Protector kit out in paper form. Now they have everything online, available for downloading.
The EPA offers age appropriate resources with games, coloring pages, facts and more. Here’s a run-down.
For kids from K age to 5th grade age:
There’s the afore mentioned Planet Protectors Club. Cedar’s almost 7 and he still likes it, so I think it’s good for a little older kids and younger kids as well. There are easy and tougher activities.
Other activities for little ones
This section of the EPA site is pretty cool because now they get into stuff like the Make a Difference Campaign and more complex issues like composting and global warming.
Teens:
The teen EPA site is actually a stand alone site and it cover major issues related to green living including careers.
There are many eco-sites geared towards kids online, but the EPA sites really cover issues in a completely kid friendly manner, without talking down to kids. These site assume kids are smart and can make a difference without candy coating the issue. Lastly there’s a neat section with student awards & grants related to green topics.
