Eating Tiny Sticks Is Fun!

March 22, 2008 by Jennifer

So, I know I said we were talking about trees all day, but this is sort of along those lines. In high school I used to skip, I mean wait until after school, and go to the co-op. I know, you’d think I’d sneak somewhere else. Anyhow, I used to get three items. Dried pineapple, honey sticks, and licorice root sticks.

I quit getting honey sticks a long time ago, because of the plastic issue (I do miss them), but I still get licorice root. Recently my son said, “Those look like little tree branches!.. And you can eat them!” He was excited that you could eat a tree stick.

They do look like little branches:

licorice root

You peel a wee bit of the bark part off and you can eat, or more suck on the middle pulpy inner section.

Licorice root is something good to try if your little one has a belly ache, before resorting to medicine. Stomach problems is only one of the things that licorice root is good for. Read more about this fun treat and purchase here. Or check your local co-op or natural food store – mine sells them in bulk which eliminates the packaging. Cool.

I still remember the taste of honey sticks eaten at the New Jersey shore… they had about a 20 different flavors. But like you because of plastic I don’t eat them anymore.

Great post. I like the title! I never even saw honey sticks in the store until recently (at Target). I was tempted, but I didn’t get them.
