Common Threads Garment Recycling

gen5_garment_recycling.jpgInstead of tossing that old shirt, you might be able to recycle it with the Patagonia Common Threads Garment Recycling Program.

This program, started in 2005, has expanded over the years, from one recyclable item to many recyclable clothing items.

Recyclable garments currently include:

  • Capilene Performance Baselayers
  • Patagonia fleece
  • Polartec fleece clothing (from any maker)
  • Patagonia cotton T-shirts
  • Some additional polyester and nylon 6 products (the ones that come with a Common Threads tag)

Once Patagonia receives clothing, they use a fiber-to-fiber recycling system to make new
Men’s, Women’s, and Kids’ clothing from the old.
To recycle you can mail items to:

Patagonia Service Center
ATTN: Common Threads Recycling Program
8550 White Fir Street
Reno, NV 89523-8939

Or you can look for a local store and drop your clothes off.

To learn more and even see a video, visit the recycling page at Patagonia.

Interesting. Turns out there’s a dealer three miles from me. I’ll check it out. I doubt it will be in my price range, though. We typically buy thrift, a venue in which I imagine it’s unlikely to come across Patagonia or Common threads.
