Coffee Plant: Grow Some Beans
It’s no secret that houseplants help clean the air indoors, but did you know that you can grow coffee beans too?
According to Gurney’s, a coffee plant will produce beans in three to four years. So, to those who wait . . . homegrown coffee beans!
And I’m sure if you’re patient enough to grow your own coffee beans, you can roast them in the oven as well.
This awesome little plant (that actually turns into a larger 3-4 foot plant) can be mailed in the spring or fall.
I’m thinking about getting one, but I’m not sure. Do cats eat coffee plants?

Um, this is cool, but don’t coffee plants (Trees?) get really huge and fat. I’ve never heard of a small coffee plant. Still, it is tempting. I am a total coffee addict.

Coffe plants stay small if they are planted in a pot, they won’t outgrow the pot. You can harvest and roast the beans, but you won’t get much…you can buy green coffee beans online though, and roast them in a popcorn popper.

Jennifer,
I believe that the coffee shrubs only get taller in tropical areas. These are supposed to stay around 4 feet. Also, they can withstand pruning to keep them from getting too fat.
You are also supposed to put them outdoors in the summer to pollinate.
Marye,
Yes, I guess you’d need a whole nursery of coffee plants if you drink it often. I think the plant is more of a fun and educational thing. Plus, it has to be pretty since it’s flowering. It would seem fun to invite the neighbors over for homegrown coffee. Really, how often can you do that?

Marye, where do you get the beans you roast? Do you grow them?
