Choose a Hemp Dog Collar
August 11, 2008 by Peggy
Dogs have an impact on the environment just like we do, except they don’t drive. Most of them don’t drive. I’m sure someone out there allows their dog drive a bit every now and then, though I don’t recommend that.
My point is that you can help lessen your doggie’s impact by choosing products that are kinder to the environment, like hemp dog collars.
Though I don’t have a dog myself, I admire Earth Dog, a carbon-neutral company that just celebrated its tenth anniversary. They have loads of hemp collars, both decorated (shown) and plain.
Why hemp?
Unlike conventional cotton, hemp is grown without …read more

Green Your Litter Disposal
June 11, 2008 by Peggy
Kristen probably guessed from my comment on Overcoming Reusable Bag Shyness that I’d be back with a whole post on eco-friendly cat litter disposal.
In comments on the bag shyness post, Kristen said:
I’ll be honest: Even though I own several reusable shopping bags, I seldom use them. The reason? I have three cats, and I use plastic grocery bags when I clean the litterbox because I can tie them up when I’m done.
Sorry I’m picking on you Kristen, but I think this is a great topic. We’ve talked about green cat litter here, but we haven’t spent much time on litter …read more
Do You Always Pick Up After Your Dog?
June 6, 2008 by Peggy
I have to avoid a lot of poo on the sidewalks near my apartments. Some of it is goose poo, but a lot of it is doggie poo. I even catch people from my windows who merrily leave their dog’s waste outside.
Do you know someone like that? Are you someone like that?
An eco-friendly doggie product, Skooperbox, can help solve the problem. Skooperboxes are made of 100% recycled paper, clip on leash, and can be thrown away after use. Simple. And they biodegrade quickly.
The Skooperbox contest ends at midnight CST on June 12. And it’s open to international readers. All you …read more
Review: Organix by Castor & Pollux
June 5, 2008 by Peggy
I wish Choco would write this review for me, but he declined. Some lazy cat I have.
My cat isn’t ultra-picky with what food he’ll eat, but he does sometimes pass on certain brands. He tried the Organix Feline Formula for Adults. It’s made with organic chicken, brown rice and flax. I paid about $10 for a three-pound bag at Petco.
Did he pass on Organix by Castor & Pollux?
No way. He likes it a lot.
Here’s what I like about Organix:
• Certified Organic by Organic Crop Improvement Association
• Natural formula: The first ingredient is organic chicken
• No pesticides, growth hormones, antibiotics, synthetic …read more

Update on Paw Luxury & Coupon Code
May 6, 2008 by Peggy
I said at the end of my Paw Luxury review that the only thing I didn’t like is that they don’t sell cat products, but it turns out that they are going to sell green cat products soon! Choco, my kitty, will be happy.
Adam at Paw Luxury said that a cat tab will be added to the site within the coming month. So, check back for eco-friendly cat products, but you can find lots of green doggie stuff on the site right now.
The owners of Paw Luxury would also like to extend a coupon code to the readers of …read more
Paw Luxury — Eco-living for the Everyday Dog
May 6, 2008 by Peggy
Paw Luxury is a new shopping website featuring all green dog products. Unlike some sites that have a few earth-friendly pet products mixed in, Paw Luxury sells nothing but green doggie essentials and extras. They offer a large variety of popular green dog products all in one place with detailed product descriptions.
You can read about Paw Luxury’s mission, inspiration and green living goals here. You should check it out to see the cute photo of Lola, the lucky dog who gets to live with Paw Luxury’s owners. She even has her own column: Ask Lola.

Green Your Dog with Biodegradable & Compostable Poop Bags
What’s so bad about dog poop? It biodegrades by itself. When your dog goes at the park or on the sidewalk, why can’t you just put it in a plastic bag from the grocery store?
That’s one way to reuse a plastic bag, but doing so preserves the poop instead of letting it biodegrade. Can you picture that? Mummified dog poop. Plus, if you remember your reusable shopping bags, you won’t have plastic shopping bags on hand anyway. Not to mention, plastic bags are on their way out as many retailers are starting to encourage reusable shopping bags.
A friendlier option is …read more
