Chic by Nature is Back

After a small hiatus, Chic by Nature is back with super blogger Kim Bui!
Chic by Nature is the place to hang if you like brillant green clothing finds. You’ll see some lovely and fun organic or recycled fashion dreams.
I especially like the upcycled cowboy shirt and the retro 80s tee Kim featured recently.
Organic clothing is also very relevant to our water conservation month here at Tree Hugging Family. Organic cotton takes much less water to produce than conventional cotton. There’s also the nice benefit of no pesticides.
If you feel like some screen shopping, please stop over and say hello …read more

You could play around here for a good long while before running out of activities or ideas. Gather your kids and pay them a visit.

Website Spotlight: 365 Days of Trash

365 Days of Trash is an exciting and rather noble green blog revolving around an experiment.
Although the blog’s author Dave still gathers his garbage, but he doesn’t throw it away exactly. He keeps it in his basement.
Here’s why in Dave’s words from his FAQs:
Actually believe it or not, this was an idea that a friend and I came up with (although it is hardly a unique one) that I really wanted to try. We were talking about the idea of throwing things “away” and how “away” is just that, somewhere other than here. It occurred to us that it is …read more

A Disgruntled Reader’s Comment & Blog Showcase

A Disgruntled Reader’s Comment & Blog Showcase

Technically not a disgruntled reader, because I seriously doubt this person reads Tree Hugging Family.
I usually only showcase green blogs but I decided this time to go with something else. Mainly, because at least a couple of people voted on our poll that they’d like to see more info on “Anti-Tree Huggers” – and this person may qualify. (Read may).
The Mad Ape left us this comment (twice):

“So I see that you think that I am angry. And your point being? Fact is that Earth Day, Earth Hour, Save the – (just so happens to be Earth right now) These are …read more

We & Me = wecansolveit.org

Al Gore’s new logo for We can solve it:

The logo is a mixture of “we” and “me.” Can you see it? We can solve it is a nonprofit group Gore founded to help prevent further global warming.
The site is full of resources, including how to be a climate champion at work. It is also very blogger friendly with an offer to send bloggers breaking news and relevant information. Check it out.

Remember Climate Counts

Remember Climate Counts

Jennifer did an excellent post in September 07 about How Consumers Can Flex Their Green Power. And she discussed Climate Counts — an effort to bring consumers and companies together to fight climate change.
Climate Counts assigns companies a Scorecard rating that tells you whether they are Stuck, Starting or Striding in their efforts to reduce their environmental impact. And those scorecards are there for all to see.
What else can you do at Climate Counts?
•Get scorecard info while out shopping by using your cell phone. Get more details.
•Watch a new short video — Unstoppable. It does a good job …read more

Encyclopedia of Life

Knowing more means loving more. And loving more is good for the earth, right? But where can you go to get reliable info on the abundant bunch of plant and animal species on earth?
Right now, there’s not one single place, but Encyclopedia of Life is trying to change that.
Encyclopedia of Life is now available online as a work in progress. BBC’s article, First look at vast ‘book of life’, gives more details about this cooperative undertaking.
If all goes according to plan, the site will feature 1.8 million species of plants and wildlife by 2017.
The site is designed to be used …read more

Tree Hugging Website Spotlight: Organic Guide

Tree Hugging Website Spotlight: Organic Guide

If you’re looking for a great guide on organic foods, then Organic Guide is perfect for you. I like Organic Guide because of the clean layout and design. It’s really easy to navigate.
Organic Guide was originally a print publication. Back in 1987 it was a simple newsletter with information about organic gardening. By 2005, the original publication had long since ceased and a team of individuals decided to bring the information online. However, they don’t just cover gardening anymore.
What you’ll find at Organic Guide:

Articles
A blog
Label sections – this part is really cool. They cover the basics organic labeling, markets, and …read more

A Really Huge Tree Hugging Treat!

Neatorama is one of my favorite sites for finding wacky stuff. Mostly items I’d never post here though. However, they have one post that all good tree huggers will adore.
10 Most Magnificent Trees in the World
It’s no joke, this is the best tree post on the web; hands down. If you like trees – and I know you do, then it’s a must see.
