When I was a kid I read this book - I can’t remember the name, but I do remember that it was about a large Jewish family during the depression maybe, which is besides the point, because it was the kooky kids in the book I liked. Anyhow, one of the young girls in the […]

There are all kinds of cool treasure hunts you can try. For Cedar’s fourth birthday we created a nature treasure hunt. The kids loved it, and it got them all outside and out of my house :)
I drew pictures of things you can find outside - if drawing is not your thing, you can cut […]

One great project for kids is building, and then cooking on, their very own solar cooker. My son built one when he was five, at this co-op school-type deal he went to for a while, along with a bunch of other five year olds and one adult. They used it all the time. They cooked […]

It’s another all-kid Saturday! Today, I thought we’d focus on cooking. There are plenty of fun, green, and healthy ways that kids can get involved with food. First up today - homemade fruit snacks.

Journey North allows kids to participate in a huge “Global study of wildlife migration and seasonal change.” It’s set up so that K-12 students can share their […]

Earth Day is quickly coming up (only 72 days to go). Many of the people involved in Earth Day events are youth. If you’re not already involved and you happen to be a child or teen; there are plenty of ways you too can get involved and make a difference, for both the planet and […]

Here’s a fun way to make a cool indoor activity out of recycled goods. Perfect for winter boredom.
Project: Recycled tumbling friend.
You will need:
Felt of any color (scraps will work).
Glue and or tape
Scrap of poster board — really the trick is you need thick paper material that can be rolled. You could use thin cardboard too.
A […]

There are so many reasons why foods like the Twinkie are bad for you and bad for the environment that it makes almost no sense to even go into it. Food, real food, does not last a million years on the convenient shelf. Twinkies are a waste of energy, waste of resources, waste of money […]
