Beer Can Butterflies
So, I caught Michael looking at beer can butterflies.
Yeah, weird I thought. Then, wait a minute. It makes perfect sense to pick up trashed beer cans on the street and turn them into butterflies. After all, butterflies are almost magical creatures that go through much change to be what they are.
In his artist’s statement, Paul Villinski, the maker of these beer can butterflies, says:
“Our grandchildren will laugh in disbelief at the vast resources we squander, manufacturing a plastic bottle for a pint of water, or mining aluminum to surround 12 ounces of beer with metal. Our generation’s trash will be another’s treasure. These littered beer cans are humble, but worthy materials, and it’s gratifying to take this ‘trash’ and turn it into something of beauty and meaning.”
Go here to see Paul’s reborn beer cans. They are lovely and amazing.
