At Least One Green Hour for Kids
September 5, 2008 by Peggy
It’s true.
Unfortunately many kids are growing up so plugged into electronics and other indoor activities they are losing the wonders of the outdoors.
How much time did you spend outside exploring and playing as a child? Does your child spend that much time outdoors?
Green Hour is a National Wildlife Federation program that encourages children to get outside for at least one hour per day.
According to research cited on the Green Hour, kids who regularly spend unstructured time outside enjoy these benefits:
• Play more creatively
• Have lower stress levels
• Have more active imaginations
• Become fitter and leaner
• Develop stronger immune systems
• Experience fewer symptoms of ADD and ADHD
• Have greater respect for themselves, for others, and for the environment
Go to Green Hour to learn more. While you’re there, grab some code to include Green Hour banners on your website like I did on my personal site. The banner above is just one example of the several available.

Thanks so much for sharing Green Hour with your readership!
We have a new event this year — the Make Tracks! Family Trail Weekend which is a national event taking place in neighborhoods across the country. Basically the idea is, on Columbus Day Weekend, plan a walk with your family. It’s that simple! Leave the car keys at home and get outside.
Check out this awesome new web site we put together for the event: http://www.maketracks.org.
Thanks again — especially for promoting our banner page!

Anne, Glad to help! The Make Tracks site is so cute, esp. the web buttons. I’ll make a note to post about it closer to the event.
Thanks for stopping by Tree Hugging Family.
Thanks for posting this Peggy! I’ll be checking it out more. It sounds like something the family will participate in as well as my Earth Scouts group.
